You're Not Going to Let it Go, Are You?

A few weeks ago, I posted a recipe for cube steak with mushroom and onion gravy.  The meal was requested by my husband and he was very pleased by the way it tasted.  I had several sweet comments left here on my blog, and others elsewhere.  The photo I submitted to Photograzing was published and that is always gratifying.

Then I got this comment,
anonymous of course:

"How bland is this?

There is nothing to this dish.. just stock and from the picture, it looks watery... no herbs or anything to help bring out the flavor.
Sorry, but it looks like someone took a dump on a plate of mashed potatoes."

I was so offended!  I couldn't stop thinking about it and talking about it to all my family and friends. And I was trying to understand why?  That is when Pritchard Parker asked me, "You're not going to let it go, are you?"

To anonymous: this dish was anything but bland. Steak, when properly seared is very flavorful.  So are mushrooms and onions.  I made more of an au jus, at my husband's request, but if you want a thickened gravy, you are certainly free to do so.  Also you may add any herbs you please to your recipes.

My question to you is:  Why would you take the time to go to someones personal blog and leave such a rude comment?

You really hurt my feelings.

OK, now I can "let it go".

  1. Rocquie, I'm so incredibly sorry that someone took the time to leave such a hurtful comment! Actually I feel sorry for that person, obviously their mom never taught them that if you don't have anything nice to say to keep your mouth shut!

I thought it looked fantastic. As bloggers we put our heart and soul into recipes and posts and a comment like this was uncalled for. Keep doing, what you are doing best and know that there a quite a few people out there that enjoy every single one of your posts!

And to the rude anonymous (coward!)commenter I would just like to add that I made a few of Rocquie's recipes for my family already and my family loved them!

  3. I am so proud of you! Cowards (excellent term Susie, thanks)are incredible, but then if they actually worked as hard at being nice, they might be friends. Rocquie, you can cook for me any time!

  4. Remember to not listen to Anonymous. Those who put it out there are a target for those who sit in the corner and wish. I haven't tried the recipe, although I might. I'm looking for more things to do with the cube steak I got with my last half cow from the butcher. I'll modify the recipe because Husband doesn't care for onion, but Anonymous may need to learn how to cook.

  5. How rude. Don't people have something better to do than ruin someone's day?

  6. Hi Mom, glad you didn't let this go. Unfortunately the world has "evolved" into a place where people feel justified in insulting others without the threat of repricussion.

Speaking from the experience of a person who has dined in Cafe Rocquie for 30 plus years I have never had a morsel that was less that delectible.

    Lots of Love, Alice

  7. Hi Aunt Rocquie,
When I saw this recipe my mouth was watering!! I think the Internet is great, but one of the unfortunate "side effects" is that people say things on the web that they'd never say in real life. I'm glad you called that punk out! :)

  8. Rocquie,
I did make this. My mushroom gravy was milk gravy, the same other than that. It was a good inspiration for me and Husband loved it. I blogged about it and gave you the credit.

  9. That person must not have had a mother to teach them 'if you can't say something nice, don't say it at all'. This is also evident by his/her lack of kitchen knowledge! Looked yummy to me!

  11. How rude! I can never understand why people would take the time to leave mean comments & what satisfaction they gain from it?
And why follow a blogger anyway, when you have nothing nice to say to them?
You're right to let it go & next time, just block IPs of anyone who leaves obnoxious comments!
